The Nation Mourns ..

.. the possible/ likely loss of Wayne Rooney for England at this summer's World Cup, with a broken metatarsal in his right foot (the same injury that scuppered his - and therefore our - chances in the Euro 2004 tournament). Kinda typical this injury occurred while playing against the much loathed Chelsea. Mind you, the Chelsea fans looked as horrified as the rest of us on TV as the seriousness of Rooney's problem unfolded on the pitch before them. Similarly, Chelsea (and England's) Lampard and Terry looked on in equal horror and disbelief, all caught live by the TV cameras. It felt like one of those defining moments when there was a collective realisation that our World Cup hopes had just died in front of us. Melodramatic stuff for sure, but that's how those seconds seemed to me, I tell ya!

On the other hand, sod melodrama! Now England stand no chance whatsover against the mighty T & T Soca Warriors on June 15th ... and Tom's agreed to pay my entire World Cup expenses if Trinidad & Tobago beat England that day!

"Kellner ... ein anderes Bier bitte"

But of course, I'm not really that selfish! Rooooooooooooooooooooooooney! Get fit quickly for all our sakes ... pleeeeeeease!

Sorry Dad!! (see first 16.11.05 post)

postscript - am I the only one who thinks, Rooney's face in above image has an eery resemblance to Munch's "The Scream"???

How appropriate ...

Theatre of Dreams

Unbelievably, in just under 72 hours time I will be running onto hallowed turf of Carrow Rd .. in boots and kit! Through the football club I run, and the Capital Canaries (Norwich City F.C. Supporters club) I've been able to join a small and privileged few fans participating in a charity match in aid of Muscular Dystrophy. We get to play against former N.C.F.C. Legends! Robert Fleck, Bryan Gunn and Dale Gordon all top my heroes list, from my era. Can't wait for some brazilian-style genuflection as I take to the field! All players have to pay to take to the field and so my close friends and family have currently sponsored me to the collective tune of circa £200, 100% of which goes to the charity. Thanks one and all. I promise not to forget you now I'll soon be moving in more prestigious company! Love you all! On the ball City!

Se7en

As the spine shivers to recall this gruesome thriller, so now my spine shivers again when I contemplate an equally gruesome 7 of my own as a Norwich City F.C. fan this season 2005/06:

1. Southampton: LOST 1-0
2. Watford: LOST 2-1
3. Luton: LOST 4-2
4. QPR: LOST 3-0
5. Milwall: LOST 1-0
6. Crystal Palace: LOST 4-1
7. Sheffield Wednesday: LOST 1-0

To summarise that's 16 goals scored against, and 4 for Norwich City F.C. at the games I was unfortunate enough to choose to go and pay money to watch this season. In addition, I have watched us lose live on TV, 1-2 against the scum - Ipswich - at home, then 2-0 to Burnley ...

My worst season ever as a match-goer. And with Chelski likely to buy the premiership for a second season running, and FIFA messing up our honest ticket swap for the World Cup ... I think it's time to reconsider my considerable investment (emotional and financial) in this beautiful game ... Now would be an appropriate time for Kevin Spacey's John Doe character in Se7en to hunt me out and punish me for the deadly sin of supporting crap football ... somebody turn the lights off on this season put me out of my misery ... please!

Football is dead. Long live football (roll on August!)

Looks like I haven't lost that magic yet ...

... shame it's with the wrong sex however! Or maybe not - hey a compliment is a compliment and I'm an open-minded guy!

Been a bit down past week, but just found this comment buried in my Flickr photo site, that made me laugh out loud, you know the belly laugh kinda thing that must release some chemicals or something, which have cheered me right up:

If you can't see the above comment via the link, here it is, pasted below in all its glory!
