The colour of the hand ...

"Ted Strickland, the (white) Democratic Governor of Ohio, has been blunt about the race issue. He said that Mr Obama would berunning away with the presidential contest were it not for his skin colour. 'We need to talk about it,' he told 40 farmers, factory workers and olderpeople in nearby Georgetown. 'Where I grew up, everybody looked like me,' MrStrickland told them. 'We need to acknowledge the fact that this is a newexperience. And we need to move beyond it. If you were drowningin a river, would you care about the colour of the hand that is reaching outto save you? No, you would not. And in this economy many people aredrowning'."

Terror Stalks ahead of the 'Mongrel' Horde

"The United States is battered and drifting after eight years of President Bush's failed leadership. He is saddling his successor with two wars, a scarred global image and a government systematically stripped of its ability to protect and help its citizens — whether they are fleeing a hurricane's floodwaters, searching for affordable healthcare or struggling to hold on to their homes, jobs, savings and pensions in the midst of a financial crisis that was foretold and preventable." - Barack for President

The US election reaches fever pitch next weekend, at the same time as Lewis will - hopefully - be crossing the finishing line as F1's youngest world champion. Being mixed race myself I can't help but feel some sense of a connection, even though I have not been able to fathom, or justify what that connection might be, beyond the obvious.

That said, I wait with baited breath, to see if the incumbents will allow it. Would be one hell of a weekend for us mongrels.

so i have a blog i've been running on blogger for 5 years now. nothing exciting. not trying to make money, write a book, attract an audience. just one simple place to communicate with a large family and friends that are scattered around the globe. and a space to have the occasional rant; you know, get things off your chest. so having been introduced to this site/ service Posterous by big brother the plan is to experiment with it to see if it makes blogging to main site easier - from email, mobile etc. Promises plenty. And I guess eventually it will get bought out by google and added to blogger anyway. OK, gentleman start your engines ..

As sage does ..

Legendary investor Warren Buffett has given a resounding vote of confidence to the US stockmarket, saying that now is a great time to "buy a slice of America's future at a marked-down price"

been wondering what to do with settlement. may as well try and grow a rose-bush, eh, from the steaming pile of sh*t that has been the last couple of years (m&f excepted of course). the paradox of having the happiest days, yet the worst of thoughts on a fairly regular basis is a paradox and mental 'schism' that sometimes wells over, making me feel unusually low. Life is not black and white in my experience, unless you choose to view it that way. now would be a nice time to try but old grey matter doesn't seem to want to let me.

Eee(k)!

my first post from a coffee shop ... how sex and the city. god help us. Have not touched alcohol for over a month, pretty much, on the advice of a doctor and some rather expensive tests. feels pretty darn good i have to say. and lost 3lbs without raising a finger in the name of actual intentional exercise. not sure how long the abstinence will last this time. so anyway, i have not totted up the cash saved as a result of being teetotal but i probably should, as a rationale for outlaying on this handy little bit-sized web device on my lap in front of me. Fashionably - or not- called a 'netbook' to distinguish it from a notebook, it's tiny but should do the job i want it to, during the 3hr train commute to/ from work. If you're curious it's called the Eee PC 900 an damn well better be compatible with the mac with the (free?) plug in I researched prior to purchase. GTD and productivity here I come. Paper is so yesterday.
