Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way
Around 1330 today I passed the magic milestone of 1,000 clinical hours - which is the amount I need to fulfill my degree commitment (from the clinical perspective at least) and qualify as a Physio. Still got some odorous academic bits and pieces I need to start, then finish in order to get it all done with. Mostly the kind of coursework you just know our lecturers only give us to tick their own boxes. I mean, a 2000 word essay on "group working" .. how do I feel about working as a group? Don't just say how I feel, but prove with references on group processes, and then analyse whether their opinions carry weight .. falling asleep yet? I will be, on numerous occasions I imagine over the next 3 weeks as I struggle to impress the unimpressable on placement and continue and finish my dissertation and coursework.
Today was supposed to be a milestone. Choose your own uplifting lyric from the Floyd to bring this mini ray of light full circle:
i) The time is gone, the song is over, I thought I'd something more to say.
ii) Shorter of breath, and one day closer to death
Knock yourself out here!

Subversive Stuff, Miles!
Reading this on Miles' blog (13.02.06), for some reason, makes me feel the way I felt watching Woody Harrelson's character incite a riot in "Natural Born Killers".
dangerous stuff with 3mths of the degree to go ..
Subversive Stuff, Miles!
I spend every waking moment either working or studying, neither of which I will remember on my death bed.

Is that a sublminal hit? (Eminem)
It worked (see last post)! Mild badgering (I mean subtle use of my extensive powers of persuasion) have persuaded Miles and Dad that it's completely in their interests to join Tom and I in Germany for the World Cup this coming June! Hooray - a family unit! Itinerary to follow!
Similar pestering has resulted in the creation of kiwi mate Phil's travel blog and photo site. Great work 'Fill-up' .. keep thos pics coming - awesome stuff (Phil is currently touring Patagonia as part of a 2 month hike through South America).
Must have a silvery tongue and/ or the iron determination to see my suggestions turned into reality. How can I get paid well and make a living from such sought after skills? Oh yeah - a career in corporate sales .. which I gave up because I hated ... hmmm .. back to the drawing board. This 'life' thing sure throws some curve balls don't it .. to turn a phrase stolen from the cowboys.

Deutschland! Kommen wir her!
We got tickets! We got tickets! We got tickets! We got tickets ...
for the World Cup 2006! Just got a text from Tom, saying our FIFA 'lottery' application has resulted in getting tickets to the following games!
June 14th, Dortmund - Germany v Poland
June 20th, Kaiserslauten - Trinidad & Tobago v Paraguay
Holen Sie es an! (which apparently means "Bring it on", according to Babel Fish, the free online translator, but half German pal Martin didn't have a clue what I was talking about! Guess the site doesn't do colloquialisms very well).

And the drugs don't work
'I refer the right honourable member to the post I gave some moments ago' (01.01.06)! My plan isn't working. I'm aiming to change my 'cultural habits'. 2 drinks and I'm done. That's the rule. The new me. Tom (younger brother) spotted a chink in the monastic armour earlier this week, when he observed wrily that I was on my 'third'. So, the damage having been done, it really wasn't too great a step off the track to go out on the lash last night! It's been an emotional roller-coaster of a couple of weeks ... finding out I have to return to Uni next year for 3 months to re-take a module .. and then finding out i) I got a first (73%) for my latest module and ii) getting extremely positive feedback on the dissertation project. Topsy-turvy world, huh? It was great to let off steam anyway -- but the hangovers really, really don't do it for me anymore. What's the answer? Everything in moderation .. that's what I'm hoping to achieve over the coming months .. but for now .. "Norvege - nul points!"
